Sarah Hutchins and Robert Botkin presented at the North Carolina Bar Association's recap of the year in data privacy, which was hosted by the NCBA Privacy & Data Security Section. Sarah and Robert provided an overview of cybersecurity principles that data privacy and technology lawyers should know.
They reviewed various security standards, with an emphasis on NIST standards, as well as a brief overview of ISO 27001 and how a SOC II audit works. They also provided practical perspectives on how those cybersecurity frameworks might influence privacy-related contracts or litigation matters.
The NCBA Privacy & Data Security Section brings together lawyers with a special interest in privacy and data security, and it works to further the development of the law in those fields.
