Charlotte, NC – Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP is pleased to announce that North Carolina Lawyers Weekly has honored Anthony Fox and Daniel Peterson among its inaugural class of Legal Newsmakers. The publication created Legal Newsmakers to spotlight lawyers who made a significant impact in the legal world over the past year.
Anthony and Daniel were recognized for a North Carolina Supreme Court case they won along with associate Jasmine Little that provided an important clarification of law for municipalities across the state. The case, Town of Midland v. Harrell, made clear that an earlier ruling did not create a blanket rule requiring municipalities to get approval from their elected boards to authorize lawsuits. You can learn more about the case here.
For more than 30 years, Anthony has been representing municipalities in North Carolina, from Wilmington to Asheville. He has developed vast knowledge of North Carolina’s state, municipal, and public-private partnership legal landscape. He is also a past president of the North Carolina Association of Municipal Attorneys. Governors and mayors of both major political parties have appointed him to local and state boards and commissions, including the City of Charlotte’s Airport Commission and the North Carolina Banking Commission.
Daniel chairs Parker Poe's Government & Municipalities Industry Team in North Carolina. He has helped cities and towns throughout the state, advising them on achieving their public policy objectives and defending them in litigation, including class actions. He is a former chair of the Government Practice Group of the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys. As chair, he played a leading role monitoring developments in government law and seeking ways to improve its practice. Prior to joining Parker Poe, Daniel served as an assistant city attorney in the Charlotte City Attorney's Office.
Anthony and Daniel were two of the seven lawyers recognized as Legal Newsmakers across the state. North Carolina Lawyers Weekly will celebrate the honorees at an award banquet in Raleigh on April 25.
