On October 15, Parker Poe hosted a webinar presentation on a topic that hits wide-ranging impacts on businesses today. This presentation covered the environmental, litigation, regulatory, and commercial landscape of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Despite debatable science regarding PFAS, increased awareness of these emerging chemicals has caused state and federal regulators to adopt legislation regulating PFAS and plaintiffs to commence significant litigation regarding these chemicals.

PFAS is also becoming more prevalent in commercial transactions, environmental cleanups, and real estate transactions. Interactions with PFAS are now unavoidable for most businesses. Parker Poe’s team shared an overview of the history, science, and definitional challenges that PFAS presents. They also provided an update on PFAS regulation and litigation in the U.S. and share insights on areas of operations that may present PFAS risks to businesses today.
