John Amabile was quoted in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's roundup of major Georgia court cases to watch in 2026.
John explained how the Georgia Supreme Court has increasingly taken a "textualist" approach in recent years, relying on the plain text of the law in question rather than legislative intent or other context. John said one result of that approach is that plaintiffs can face bigger hurdles than in other states as to whether they have standing to bring lawsuits.
"The Georgia Supreme Court has really restricted the ability to challenge whether a statute is unconstitutional by looking at who had the right to make those challenges in the 18th century," John said.
