Raleigh, NC – North Carolina Central University appointed Nana Asante-Smith to its board of visitors. Nana will be responsible for revitalizing the board as it helps the university meet its mission and strategic priorities.

Nana will help the university as it seeks to be a driver of economic development and engage with local, state, and national stakeholders. She joins a "dynamic set of industry leaders," the university stated, who form a new board that has not been operational since 2022. Other members include technology and education executives, musicians, and banking and energy leaders.

"[These leaders'] service will help expand opportunities for our students, elevate our partnerships and advance our impact as a driver of economic growth and public good," NCCU Chancellor Karrie G. Dixon said.

At Parker Poe, Nana focuses her practice on internal and governmental investigations, white collar and business litigation, and cases involving allegations of sex discrimination at colleges and universities. She has represented clients in industries such as financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, and education.

Nana is deeply committed to serving both her community and the legal profession. She currently serves on the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority Board. Additionally, she serves on the advisory board for the Durham YMCA. Her previous roles include chairing the Durham Mayor’s Council for Women, leading organizations representing Black attorneys in North Carolina and Durham, and serving on the board of directors for Duke University’s alumni network in the Triangle area.

Located in Durham, North Carolina Central University is a historically Black university that was founded in 1910.
