Parker Poe Hosts Emerging Issues in Federal Investigations & Compliance CLE Program

Parker Poe hosted an in-person CLE program featuring Ellis Boyle, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina. The session focused on emerging federal enforcement priorities and the implications for businesses and institutions in the Raleigh–Durham region.

Designed specifically for in-house counsel, general counsel, compliance officers and risk professionals, and university counsel, the program provided timely insight into how federal civil and criminal enforcement trends are shaping risk, compliance, and litigation strategy for organizations operating in the Triangle. Inside Federal Enforcement: Corporate Cooperation & Risk Mitigation With U.S. Attorney Ellis Boyle

Nana Asante-Smith moderated a fireside chat with U.S. Attorney Boyle in which they discussed enforcement priorities, trends related to businesses (civil and criminal), and impact on cybersecurity, as well as the role of corporate cooperation/self-reporting/internal compliance programs. They also shared what businesses and institutions can do to mitigate risk.

Enforcement Development & Practical Risk Management

Corri Hopkins moderated a panel that featured Dena King, Cristina Stam, and Bruce Thompson. Their discussion covered how federal trends are playing out locally, including common triggers for investigations. They provided best practices for internal investigations and responding to subpoenas, preparing leadership teams/boards for government scrutiny, and managing exposure (criminal, civil, and regulatory).

Federal Trade Commission Enforcement Trends to Watch in 2026

Robert Botkin and Sarah Hutchins explained how the FTC is intensifying enforcement around consumer consent, privacy and transparency. Their presentation highlighted key risk areas, including dark patterns and consent design, truth in advertising, monetization of sensitive data, AI and automated decision-making, data security, and protections for minors, along with practical enforcement signals to watch.
