Three current compliance gaps accelerating corporate risks

Parisa Salehi wrote an article in Dow Jones Risk Journal about how three anti-money laundering compliance developments are accelerating corporate risks: domestic politically exposed persons, regulatory rollback, and the silent failure of AI-driven compliance.

"Together, they present a challenge that institutions cannot manage by relying on the frameworks they already have," Parisa wrote. "As a former Senate-confirmed Inspector General, I spent years measuring the distance between what compliance programs claim to catch and what they actually catch."

"These gaps are the real risk," she continued. "It does not show up in audit checklists or regulatory citations. They live in the space between documented procedure and operational reality, and the institutions that manage it well never stop asking whether their programs are working, not merely whether their programs are complete."
