Business North Carolina Names 11 Parker Poe Attorneys Among 2021 Legal Elite

Charlotte, N.C. – Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP is pleased to announce that 11 of its attorneys have been named among Business North Carolina magazine’s 2021 Legal Elite. Every North Carolina attorney has a chance to vote on the Legal Elite, resulting in a list the magazine describes as “the state’s best attorneys, selected by their peers.”

Approximately 3 percent of all practicing attorneys in the state were selected this year. Below are the Parker Poe attorneys and the categories in which they were recognized.

Bill Pappas is a partner in Raleigh who provides results-oriented corporate counsel to national and international clients in the life sciences, manufacturing, pharmaceutical-related, health care, and investment industries.

Jason Herndon
 is a partner in Raleigh who advises clients on construction claims litigation, in-project dispute avoidance, and contract drafting and negotiation issues. He is a previous chair of the North Carolina Bar Association's Construction Law Section.

Patti Bartis 
has defended employers facing discrimination claims for more than 20 years. Patti regularly assists employers with compliance, training, and drafting employment agreements and policies. She also serves as Parker Poe’s Raleigh Office Development Partner.

Jonathan Crotty is a partner in Charlotte who leads the firm's Employment & Benefits Group. Jonathan has been a successful counselor and problem solver for large and small employers in the Carolinas and beyond for more than 20 years.

Maureen McDonald Zyglis is counsel in Raleigh who defends employers against claims of discrimination before state and federal agencies and courts. Maureen also handles campus investigations and conducts Title IX training for colleges and universities. 

Pat Meacham is a partner in Raleigh who focuses on professional negligence and product liability claims. Pat has represented health care providers, hospital systems, and multiple Fortune 500 companies in professional negligence, premises, and product liability claims and has been lead counsel in large multiparty mass tort cases.

Real Estate
Jake Parrott is counsel in Raleigh who focuses his practice on commercial real estate transactions that include the new development, acquisition, and sale of all commercial property types, as well as leasing, real estate financing, and lending. 

Grant Whitney is a partner in Charlotte who concentrates on real estate law. Grant has extensive experience representing utilities, municipalities, banks, health care providers, developers, homebuilders, and other clients. 

Tax Estate
Jeff Morris is a partner in Charlotte who represents clients in matters involving trusts, estate planning, estate administration, and taxation. He is a North Carolina State Bar board certified specialist in estate planning and probate law. 

Young Guns
Nana Asante-Smith is an associate in Raleigh who focuses on complex civil litigation, including unfair trade practices and government and internal investigations. Nana serves as president of the North Carolina Association of Black Lawyers and holds other community leadership positions. 

Daniel Knight is an associate in Raleigh who concentrates on construction law. Daniel has represented owners, general contractors, and subcontractors in a broad range of construction litigation claims, including over breaches of contract, defective construction, and bond claims.
