Keith Weddington and Lucy Anderson presented to the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) Charlotte Chapter for the organization’s regular annual update on employment law and an overview of the current legal challenges facing employers.
The latter half of 2025 and the first half of 2026 continued to bring significant changes for employers. Key judicial opinions from the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and North Carolina appellate courts helped shift the employment landscape. The topics addressed by these courts included potential exemptions from the Federal Arbitration Act, issues of causation in retaliation cases, remote work as an (unreasonable) accommodation, the lawfulness of contractually shortened statutes of limitations for federal discrimination claims, religious accommodations, and much more.
In addition to updates on recent court decisions, the program also addressed the ever-changing landscape of executive orders, regulations, and enforcement priorities at the federal agency level, including the EEOC, the NLRB, the Department of Labor, and OSHA. Attendees learned how these changes would impact private employers and their workforces.
