Charlotte, NC – Fifteen Parker Poe attorneys and business professionals recently teamed up with attorneys and professional staff from Duke Energy to create simple wills, powers of attorney, and advance directives for Mecklenburg County residents aged 60 years and over. This is the fourth year the firm has partnered with Duke Energy for this pro bono work. The project is led by the Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy.

There are about 150,000 seniors who call Mecklenburg County home and roughly a quarter of them live on incomes that are under 200% of the federal poverty level, according to the Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy. The center relies on this type of pro bono work to help these seniors create what are considered key end-of-life planning documents.

The project is part of the Pro Bono Institute's EmPOWERing Pro Bono Day, now in its fourth year. The day of service seeks to address key legal needs of underserved communities.

Duke Energy attorney Alex Castle and Parker Poe attorney Michael Crook led the efforts in the project. The project was made possible with the support of Courtney Viebrock, Soreé Finley, and Sidonia Gibilisco at the Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy. Parker Poe manager of community engagement and talent Crystal Jones also provided support for the event. In addition, the following Parker Poe attorneys and professionals took part:
